April is a deceptively busy month. In addition to students wrapping up what is typically the last full month of their school year and the start of warmer weather and more community events on the calendar, April is an important month to spread awareness on a variety of critical community issues. Utilize the longer days and increased activity to educate your followers and community members on social media this month.
Familiarize yourself with content opportunities this April, including:
Join the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in spreading awareness about the perils of distracted driving. Not only is it dangerous to multitask while driving–which includes everything from texting to applying makeup to changing the music–it can cost drivers by having to pay for tickets, insurance increases, and being held liable for damages if an accident occurs.
Help keep your community’s drivers and pedestrians safe by sharing informative graphics throughout the month to help prevent distracted driving. Go a step further by making our “Distracted Driving” flyer available to your community, not just this month but year-round.
Every 98 seconds someone in the US is sexually assaulted, meaning more than 570 people experience sexual violence daily in this country. Though it is a difficult topic to discuss, education and awareness are great first steps to mitigating sexual violence in communities across the nation.
Share information on vital topics such as where sexual assaults are most likely to occur, what to do during an attempted attack, and what options are available for victims.
Like many of these topics, it may seem like an insurmountable task to some to address child abuse prevention. However, it’s important that community members, especially those who work or interact with children regularly, are knowledgeable on signs of child abuse or neglect and ways to educate and empower children, including safety strategies. All community members should feel equipped enough to recognize and report potential child abuse.
Sponsored by the National Council for Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, Alcohol Awareness Month aims to spread awareness about the prevalence of alcoholism in the United States, putting extra emphasis on youth education. Parents, school administrators, and other influential adult figures can play a crucial part in not only teaching children about the dangers of underage drinking and overconsumption but also setting a positive example.
Provide the adults in your community with the knowledge they need to educate others about the risks of alcohol consumption.
